Happy Birthday to my Blog!

Wow! It’s been three years since I first started sharing my work and life on this blog. In honor of firsts, in celebration of new adventures, and for the love of jumping in before you know how cold the water is, I thought I’d go ahead and share some images from the first wedding I ever photographed.

Before this wedding, I’d only shot academic events, and portrait sessions. I liked the idea of photographing beautiful things, and documenting special moments between people, but I had never worked as a second shooter, or associate photographer at a wedding, and had no experience at all shooting weddings. In fact, I hadn’t even attended very many as a guest!

This beautiful couple, Twinkle and Utkarsh, looked at my very limited portfolio and made the decision to take a chance. I didn’t know them; they weren’t friends of mine who trusted me and were doing me a favor. They were just a lovely couple who found my (old) website, liked my work, and decided to hire me to document their day.

I could not be more thankful that they did! I learned so much from this wedding. Looking at these photos, I see a lot of things I would do differently now, stylistically, and technically, but what really surprises me is how much I still love the photos. Despite the many ways in which my work has evolved, my reasons for shooting weddings, and my artistic vision are still the same at the core — honest story-telling and capturing life’s most beautiful moments — and I can’t tell you how comforting that is. It makes me feel like I’m still in the right place.

So, happy birthday, blog! You are such a gem.

Thank you again, Twinkle and Utkarsh.
