I’m so excited to share this session! As you may know, I mostly shoot weddings and couples. For a long time though, I’ve wanted to do sessions that celebrate friendships, particularly female friendships as those have been some of the most formative, and rewarding relationships in my life.
When Charlotte asked me if she could invite her dear friend, Ola (who is in her pandemic social bubble) to her portrait session, I was absolutely all for it! They showed up glowing and joyful, reminding me of how much I value the women in my life, and how inspired, and supported I continue to be by them.
I love every photo from this session. It also resonates with me politically because Black women are so often expected to save the world and carry its grief, and I feel the least we can do to support them is hold space for their rest and happiness. (To my friends in the US, remember that love is a verb and voting is action.)
Like most of us, I am missing so many of my closest friends right now, but I do feel lucky to be here in Canada, spending time with family. Do you have friends or family you’re bubbling with through this otherwise isolating time? Or, maybe you’ve stepped up your videochatting game?
There are so many ways to connect now, and things can certainly feel more bearable when you have the right people in your circle.
